Opportunities for Study
Time spent in God's Word is important and vital to the spiritual health of every Christian. At Saint Athanasius, we strive to offer a variety of opportunities for all to be involved.

Scripture Study
- Every Sunday morning at 9:00 am, we offer Sunday School for children of all ages and an adult Bible Class taught by the Pastor. Currently, the adult class is studying the Book of Genesis as it was taught by Luther to his students in Wittenberg, Germany.

Midweek Bible Study
- On Wednesdays, we are currently studying the books called the Pastoral Epistles: 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus in our group that meets at the church in Vienna. Our other group, meeting in Alexandria, is studying the Epistle to the Hebrews. These studies meet on alternating weeks, and so approximately twice a month.

Psalms Lunchtime Bible Study
- Most every Monday a small group meets to read and study the Psalms. Bring your lunch and join us in reading and learning to use this "prayerbook of the Bible!"

Confessions Reading Group
- This group meets once a month on a Monday night to read and discuss the Book of Concord, the book of the Lutheran Doctrinal Writings.

Spanish Bible Study
- A Spanish-English bilingual Bible Study is offered every other Sunday in Springfield at 7 pm. This group meets at the Springfield Laundromat.

Father Group
- We have a group of fathers with young children who meet once a month for encouragement and support. We are currently reading and discussing the book "Courageous Fathers of the Bible."

Book Clubs and Discussion Groups
- Our members often form groups to read and study books they are interested in - Church Fathers, theology, or books of current events.

Good Shepherd Seminar
- Our congregation sponsors this annual lecture series where a professor from one of our seminaries comes and presents a topic to us.

Bible Seminars
- Pastor Douthwaite teaches in depth seminars on occasion, on topics of interest to the congregation. These usually occur on a Saturday, so that more time can be spent exploring a topic.

Online Studies
- We are also considering the possibility of posting some online Scriptures Studies for people to use at their convenience. Keep checking our site for the latest on this!
